Polar Bear

Description:

Polar bears have a distinctive white or yellowish fur that provides camouflage in their Arctic environment. They have a large body, a long neck, and relatively small ears. Their paws are large and covered with fur to aid in swimming and walking on ice. Adult males typically weigh between 900-1,600 pounds (410-720 kg) and measure about 7.9-9.8 feet (2.4-3 meters) in length. Females are smaller, weighing between 330-550 pounds (150-250 kg).

Diet:

Primarily feed on seals, especially ringed and bearded seals. They hunt seals by waiting near breathing holes in the ice. They also eat other marine mammals, fish, and occasionally scavenge on carcasses.

Conservation Status:

    Vulnerable. The primary threat to polar bears is climate change, which is reducing sea ice habitat. Other threats include oil and gas development and increased human-bear interactions as bears spend more time on land.
